Default SilverStone OP650 Olympia 650W

Just ordered the above mentioned P.S. from Deadeye Data. "Knowing"(a close, personal friend of mine...) Jonny saved me most of the shipping! $132.00 shipped. It will power my new system, below. For once I got about what I need and didn't compensate for my tiny unit. Many of the items have mail-in rebates, which I hate, bet they make the little woman romantic, so it's worth it! Still WAY less than what a boutique supplier would charge.

How'd Jonny save you the shipping? I'm about to buy the same thing from either sundialmicro of deadeyedata myself.

How is their shipping? Do you know of any reviews for the PSU? It's Jonny certified so far I think.

Sir, are you at all concerned about mixing SATA and IDE on the 680i board? I haven't been on the eVGA message board for a couple of weeks, but last thing I read was the SATA problem was caused by running IDE devices with it. I would like to know the final word, because I have a couple of IDE data drives that it would sure be easy to migrate my data with if they ironed out that problem.

$cooter;

I haven't researched that problem, but I'll let you know what happens with my set-up if you like. Be a couple of weeks. I'm off to their forums to familiarize myself. Still got time to cancel that order and start over. Thanks for the heads up. _ReeL

Must be a certain combination of certain SATA drives and certain IDE drives because I have SATA hard drives (two each) and IDE opticals (two each) in two eVGA 680i boards and I've had zero problems with them. Been running since December when I built them for CES.

I read of this problem with the 680i chipset on Newegg.This guy destroyed 3 drives by just plugging them in.There is a bios update to fix the issue.

I've seen the above problems repeated on most forums myself but never experienced them with any 680i SLI board that I've used, which is about 5 different ones including the eVGA.

I don't see how a motherboard can "destroy" 3 hard drives just by plugging them in. Corrupt data? Sure. But how does Rx and Tx leads on a serial bus connection "destroy" a hard drive?
