Default Looking for help, Friend pointed me here

Hi, Slasher Here

I am not a hardcore enthusiast, but i do build all the PCs i can (4 till now). The main thing that i don't really get is the PSU, so i generally ask for advice from a friend. I already used a Corsair CX 600, Corsair HX850i (my main rig), and 2 others.

The CX600 failed me after about 5 years and i need a new psu for my lan server. info:
- server is in my room
- the HX850i is close by
- server has a dual core and 5 HDDs (4 3.5", 1 2.5") and probably only expandable in HDDs

I have no idea where and what to look for honestly... So i want to ask you guys for advice.

What i care about is minimum noise (silent if possible) and heat. price if secondary, but i would still like to own both my kidneys XD. being a modular psu with the same pinout as the HX850i is a plus.

PS. there used to be a list of PSUs by tier somewhere (lemon list if i not mistaken). is that still a thing?

Main rig: i7 2600K / R9 290 modded (2 gentle typhoons) / Hyper212 cooler / asus z86 / 16gb ram / 256gb samsung evo / Corsair HX850i / 10x 120mm fans (gentle typhoons)

Those lists have always been quite crappy.

Best options always depends on the availability in your country. So a link to the store(s) would certainly help. Same goes for the full PC specifications.

Corsair RM550x and BitFenix Whisper 450W are two power supplies with (almost) the same pin-out. Except that they have four extra pins in the 24 pins ATX cable for Vsense wires.

Sorry for the late reply... Are these PSUs the best to get in my case in general or are they the best available in the provided stores?

Hi mask. I have a friend going for paris tomorrow....I just want to confirm that these are still the best options.

Honestly i will be going for the RMi if you have no updates since it has a 0 rpm option

thanks in advance

EDIT: I always here about the BE QUIET brand, do i even bother with it?
EDIT 2: can you point me to where i can find the pinout styles used in modular PSUs? are there any standards at all?

RMx has Zero RPM as well.

Difference between RMx and RMi is:

1. RMi has FDB fan as opposed to rifle bearing
2. RMi allows you to monitor voltages, power usage, fan speed and program a fan curve if you don't want to use the zero RPM mode

Every PSU with LAMBDA-A++ or LAMBDA-A+ will cover you. From Corsair the RMx and RMi are dead silent. From be quiet the E11-550 and from Bitfenix the BF550G is as silent as it gets for a PSU with a cooling fan. There are others as well, but I leave you to discover them

Final question:

Is there a naming for the styles/types of pinouts that we have for modular PSUs? ex if i want a custom mod cable set i can just say i have "type x" cabling.
