Seasonic G Series 550W Power Supply Review

Not too long ago, we had a look at our first Seasonic G Series unit. Weighing in at 360 watts, it was yet another amazing power supply from what is arguably the company to beat these days when it comes to fantatic performing units. Now, I've got the 550 watt version on my bench. We're going to see if Seasonic's winning streak continues.

Cool review.

Tight minor rails helped with keeping average Vdrop within 1.5% then 0.5 point saved.

Fun write up.. though you scored it too high imo (10 for performance without perfect 12v regulation and 9 for quality despite the mess on the underside of the PCB).

$105 normal price...good but not a 10 in my book.

The unit didn't drop enough of a mess on regulation to qualify for the point loss, and he pulled a half point off for the solder blob, and another half point off for the scratch. If he was any harsher on build quality, some of the units he's done in the past would be retrospectively downgraded to sub-zero point scores.

I do think the value score needs to drop a half point however, it's a competitive price, but not one that blows everything else out of the market.

Nice review as usual. About the fan - I wouldn't worry about it. ADDA usually make decent ball bearing fans. I've seen a few ADDA sleeve bearing fans seize up, though.

Weighting.

Performance = 40% of score
Functionality = 20% of score
Value = 20% of score
Build Quality = 20% of score

To further explain, the score is equal to ((Performance x 40) + (Functionality x 20) + (Build Quality x 20) + (Value x 20))/100.

In this case ((10 x 40) + (9 x 20) + (10 x 20) + (9 x 20))/100 = 960/100 = 9.6
