That's not an adjusted value and they don't tell us what the room's ambient noise level is. Most likely somewhere in the 30-35dB range, given the figures.
Like wise, they're not isolating the PSU but going off of the whole system. Still, if you notice, the BeQuiet unit is the quietest out of all of the units presented. Even Enermax's platinum offering which is more efficient. |

From the most recent ATX spec.
Sound power determination is to be performed at 43 C, at 50% of the maximum rated load, at sea level. This test point is chosen to represent the environment seen inside a typical system at the idle acoustic test condition, with the 43 C being derived from the standard ambient assumption of 23 C, with 20 C added for the temperature rise within the system (what is typically seen by the inlet fan). The declared sound power shall be measured according to ISO 7779 and reported according to ISO 9296. ALSO Temperature - RECOMMENDED Operating ambient +10 °C to +50 °C (At full load, with a maximum temperature rate of change of 5 °C/10 minutes, but no more than 10 °C/hr.) |

Hi, I'm one of the two PSU guys at the German site tech-review.de.
For the interpretation of our noise testing: a) Never compare our figures to other sites. Our measurement doesn't comply to any standards. But we do the testing the same way with every PSU, so as long as you look at the listed competitors in our diagramm our results are valid. Switching to a distance of 1 meter isn't an option, because our equipment wouldn't allow us usefull results. So we do our testing at very close range. b) The sound level of our P10 @ load was perfect. Using low loads, some other PSUs are more silent. Ok, the difference is very little, but we are German and we really care about noise. Units like the Seasonic S12II are considered very loud here. c) We don't have to isolate the PSU from the system, because we disable the fans for some seconds. Instead of an HDD Louis Hirschmann bought a SSD for his test setup, too. We isolate the graphics card, because his HD 4870 has the coil whining problem. Feel free to ask questions

I've got a P10 850W in the queue and I will tell you there was absolutely no electrical noise at all. If you have one making a whining noise, and you're sure the noise is coming from the power supply, then you have a defective unit.

I am very much sure it came from the unit itself. because when I plugged in my old PSU, there were no such noise to track at all.
