Default best os for old ibm?

hey!
i have a "designed for win2k" ibm all-in-one pc. i wasted 2hrs defragging/disk cleanup-ing it, and it still take 6:43 (counted) to turn on. i need to be able to have it boot up in less than a minute, and not take 10mins to open firefox (no joke)...
what would work?
im thinking dsl (damn small linux)?
but it needs to have openoffice.org on it. (or ms office)...

specs:
733mhz socket 370 celeron (66mhz fsb, i tried a 1.1ghz with a 100fsb it didnt boot),
512mb (2x256mb) pc133 ram
40gb ide hard drive.
problem is the cd drive is shot. so i will need to install it via usb port.

thanks!
<--this is so cute
