Default Super Flower launches Platinum King 450W, 550W and 650W

The Platinum King is a to 80PLUS Platinum upgraded version of the Golden Green HX series or downgraded version of the Golden King as you wish.

A little fresh up: when Super Flower launched their Golden Green series, it was a great power supply in that time. It combined good performance, good quality, high efficiency (80PLUS Gold) with a great price. It was their first PSU series after changing course from nobody to a good PSU manufacturer.

Review: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...Story&reid=250

Ten a half year later they launched the Golden King series, which was based on the same design. It was only tuned and upgraded for 80PLUS Platinum. The great bang for the buck stayed.

Review: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...Story&reid=286

Then late 2013/early 2014 the Leadex Gold was launched replacing the Golden Green series with even better quality and performance. Also a Golden Green HX series was launched, based on the original Golden Green series, but with a sleeve bearing fan and CapXon caps, performance didn't change much, but the price was a lot lower. And with the 5 year warranty it was stil a great option for people who didn't want to spend like 100 dollars or euros on a Leadex Gold 550W PSU.

And now they did the same thing with the Golden King series and downgraded it to make it much cheaper. Or upgraded the Golden Green HX to 80PLUS Platinum as you wish. So expect the same quality as the Golden Green HX with probably a sleeve bearing fan and CapXon caps, but with the same performance as the Golden King, all black cables, a much lower price and 5 years warranty.
  • 450W version comes with 4 sata connectors, 3 molex connectors, 2 6+2 pins PEG connectors, and a 4+4 pins EPS connector.
  • 450W version comes with 5 sata connectors, 4 molex connectors, 2 6+2 pins PEG connectors, and a 4+4 pins EPS connector.
  • 650W version comes with 8 sata connectors, 4 molex connectors, 4 6+2 pins PEG connectors, a 4+4 pins EPS connector and according to Caseking even a second 8 pins EPS connector.

Prices should be around 70 euro incl. VAT for the 450W version, 80 euro incl. VAT for the 550W version and 95 euro for the 650W version or a bit less if the store works with a lower margin.

This makes this series around 10 euros more then the 80PLUS Gold Cougar GX-S series which launched a couple of weeks ago. This also makes series like the new CXM series from Corsair, Fractal Integra M series, Cooler Master GM series and Antec VPF series only around 10/15 euros cheaper. Great offering from Super Flower!

Damn. There's no way this is made in house at super flower. Has to be outsourced.

According to Tinpoint it's an upgrade of the Golden Green HX platform.
The input filter also looks the same.

No it's exactly like the Golden Green HX series.

Don't think the Golden Green was THAT great, the price was not the best for the results it showed. The Platinum efficiency is nice, but with fixed cabling, 80 Euros is not that great. In here it will cost even more, at least 10 % as usually.

Really, according to Geizhals, at less than 8 Euros more you can get RM550x. Slightly lower efficiency, but who cares when you get 10year warranty and fully-modular cabling, plus no crapxon? Is this King even semi-fanless?

I mean, they are not bad, but I do not understand your enthusiasm Mask. If it had quality caps, 10year warranty and was fully modular for the price of RMx, than yeah, that would be some competition. Now it is just another unit in a long row to consider if you do not want/could get RMx, or EVGA G2. But there is NOTHING to make in No. 1 choice.

I was thinking the same thing. They can't keep up with EVGA demand and now they want to launch a price leading Platinum product? Can't see how they can do it unless they outsource, or they've built a new factory that we don't know about.

So now whats Corsair gonna bring into the party? $20 450w semifanless titanium unit with FDB fan, 100% Japanese Caps, 7-10y warranty, less than 15mv ripple on all rails, fully modular, 2 6+2pin PEG connectors and 145mm or less depth?

It was only 5/10 dollars more then the current Antec VPF series, Cooler Master GM series, new Corsair CXM series and Fractal Design Integra M series and that was 2 years ago already. There was nothing better here two years ago and I don't think that there was anything better in Germany.

Nothing wrong with fixed cables. Who needs a modular 450W PSU anyway? A PSU like this Super Flower Platinum King 450W is perfect for a fast gaming PC with one graphics card. Then you probably gonna use all the cables except only one molex cable in a modern PC. Even in a 30 euro case you can hide one cable.

Because a RM450x doesn't exist and because for most people 450W is enough for their single GPU game PC, you can compare the RM550x with the Platinum King 450W. Which makes the difference more then 8 euros.

This Dutch store buys the PSU at Caseking and sells it for 65.70 euro incl. VAT and 54.30 ex VAT. That's even lower then Caseking sells the PSU for to customers.

No it isn't.

Well that can easily be done, but I guess they saw a bigger market in lowering the quality, don't make it modular and sell it for a lower price so they don't compete with the Leadex Platinum series which is exactly that, except the 10 years warranty off course.

There is and never will be a number one choice, it all depends on what the customer wants.
