Arrow Thermaltake Toughpower 1350W Review

Quote:
A little while ago, I had a look at Thermaltake's latest and greatest Toughpower Grand unit. Clocking in at 1200 watts, that unit ended up being somewhat more bland than grand. Well, today I'm looking at something even more powerful - the Toughpower TP-1350M 1350W unit. Will it leave a more lasting impression on us? Let's take a look.

They are still pushing the PUC out the door?

CWT put PUC up to 80+ Gold at 1200w; but no ones used it yet (I feel as though, it's most likely just a 1350w PUC down rated.)

Still though; in terms of performance, this guy did more than expected (I was expecting the 3.3v rail to sit about 4% when it came to hot tests and the 5v to slip more)

But that C13/C14 socket needs to go, the wire gauge needs to be stepped up, and for the low of god...thread locker...It's not even that expensive! I can pick up a tube of Red 271 for $8 in stores locally. I CAN EVEN WALK TO THAT STORE. Seriously... such an oversight.

Huge LOL at loose screws...

I wanted to LOL at that half-assed adapters, but since it's a PUC, it kinda makes sense. What makes zero sense, is usage of non-detachable 8-pin PCI-E, and adding 8 to 6-pin PCI-E adapters on Toughpower Grand!

Still, price is reasonable, and MaxRevo is horribly overpriced, where I live (about on par with SST-1500), so it's a worthwhile option.

A better modular layout, and some thread locker, and this thing could, I say again *could* be really worth buying.
I mean, what would it take to put a pair of PCI-E connectors onto the other 12v rail?

And I wonder something, the sticker suggests this thing could, in theory, push out 1500w. Of course, the AC connector would melt at that current.

Wolfy: I do wonder if it's worthwhile putting an aux load on one side to keep it loaded while running a full test on the other? Yeah, it's more work, but would it show any different ripple results?

"Directron also has it on sale for that price as I type this."

This is pretty much meaningless. On my last order* a few months ago, Directron told me they had an item in stock, and then it ended up on backorder... a week later... then I called and demanded a refund... which I got the following week.

Apparently they practice speculative inventory.

*and I do mean, "my last order".

Maybe not.

You'd be surprised how hard it is to get some things in China. I was over there one time and couldn't find Bondo for a project I was doing. Regular old Bondo.

Which is why I didn't score it based on their price - just mentioned it.

What's Bondo? I presume it's some kind of glue by the name?
Point = made methinks.
Then again, there's probably some equivalent product, you just need to find it.
