Well damn.... I just got the PowerShot S100 yesterday.

I hope it lasts.

The Sony DSC-T50 I've been using all of these years is from 2006.

Canon claims the S100s with this problem should have a serial number that begins with any number ranging from 29 though 41 (29xxxxxxxxxx, for example).

I don't know if there is any batch out of this range. Maybe that's another phrase of "all the S100s".

My serial number starts with 45. Fingers crossed.

There are some dumb things with this camera. For example: I can't force flash in auto mode. But if I go into manual mode, I have to set EVERYTHING manually. On my Sony, I can force flash in any mode.

Well that's what return periods are for.

Yeah. I'm going out this weekend, so I'll read the manual and take a bunch of pictures and if it pisses me off, I'll return it and get the Sony. My Sony has been so good and easy to use that I can't imagine a newer, more expensive model could be any worse.

That's the problem with Sony...

The company pisses every internet user off with adhortatory letters and lawsuits (like the ones for hacking the Playstation 3)...

But their products are pretty good. So you may want to boycott Sony, but you can't really do it because, at least their cameras, are really good...
