The primary is quick and robust enough that it can take the transient load gracefully. I'm not sure if it's smart to reduce quantity of components just for the sake of having less visile parts. If you can lower cost it for sure makes sense, but otherwise I don't see much use. Cooling doesn't profit from this usually because you will have more heat at one place.
