You probably got one of the revisions as the guys at PC Max & PC Experience both had the older design & older fan (2800 RPM model vs 2100 RPM model.)

Trust me about Yate's though, no single user has had as much experience with as many units as I have.
It's okay. I'm not going to argue with you. I guess I have very sensitive ears.

400W Aurum had decent fan profile [...] ~650 rpm@idle [...]
IMO, a bit too much for such an efficient PSU.

EDIT:

Yate Loon fans are not bad quality, they're excellent products but a ball bearing can be easily damaged.
As I wrote the fan of my EA-450 Platinum isn't damaged. I also have an Antec HCG-520M (with 2BB fan) here, so I could compare both of them acoustically. Seriously, both produce about the same background noise - so they are too loud to me (typical Antec).

By the way, the fan control of my EA-450 is broken. According to Antec, there were already similar cases.. Only BQ's SW USC rotates very slowly (because of very low voltage)..

Interesting, the unit I'm using doesn't have a problem; it definitely was a bit on the noisy side though (since the fan was a high speed model.)

I actually swapped in a Scythe S-Flex that runs 900 RPM (max) into the unit and threw it into my HTPC.
