Default Need help looking for a hopefully efficient 500Wer. What can you recommend?

Firstly, if I may: Hello!

I've been reading up on various power supplies for my system, because my present PSU is an OCZ Fatal1ty 750w model which seems to be slowly going - while it's got some life left in it yet, I'd rather replace it while I can.

Based on various bits I've read and also the PSU calculator linked to me posted here (thank you Phaedrus), I think what I actually need is about a 500w model. So far what I have in my box is a 6870 graphics card and 8120 Bulldozer/FX processor, presently not overclocked and looking likely not to be, due to heat issues. The only other bits worth mentioning are five fans and two hard drives. I may change that over to Sandy Bridge later, but for now I'm stuck with AMD.

While I'd like to get a Super Flower built unit for its efficency, I'm having issues finding any here in the UK, but I would like one which is efficient just due to power bills - I pay 40c per Kwh where I live, so any savings can help quite a bit.

Are there any models that could be recommended which would suit me? Initial cost doesn't matter much, I must add.

Welcome to the forum, and here you go, Super Flower Golden Green in the form of an NZXT Hale90 550, the price is also good.

Not sure what you're looking at Budget wise, but you may want to consider BeQuiet as an option.
The Straight Power E9 CM 480w (solid but not fantastic unit) is around 75 GBP and going slightly higher you can get the Dark Power Pro P10 550w for around 95 GBP.

While the Super Flower Golden Green & Golden King units are very good performers; the 550w is the only one available in the UK shops (specifically over at Amazon.co.uk) around 40-60 Pounds more than these two units.

For the price, both units are fairly hard to beat. Especially considering BeQuiet's great track record with creating quiet units that are efficient and have great cabling.

The Dark Power Pro P10 performs in line with Seasonic's X-Series & the Super Flower Golden Green units for the most part; so you're getting no less of a unit when buying it.

The P10 550 that TT suggested is indeed the most complete product on the market, if you can get it at a similar price then by all means go for it.

Thank you all, if I may!

I think though I'll go for for the P10 unit TT linked here, while it's £20 for what isn't a huge boost to efficiency, having a look around it does seem to be enough to justify the extra spent on it. While I know platinum isn't quite the do-all end-all and I shouldn't judge from that alone, from what I can see I should easily cover the extra cost from what I gain.

If I may, thank you TT!
