I put the CRO on the PS_ON line and it is high when in hibernate or off, then during the clicking at start up or wake goes low just as normal. The PWR_OK line is low during the clicking and then goes high once the power returns to normal, which is what it is supposed to do. So this would mean that it is the power supply right?

If it is the power supply though, why does it only happen when hibernate is enabled?. As far as I can see powering off the computer and going into hibernate are done exactly the same way with PS_ON pin, so why would they react different, unless it was the motherboard.

I am going to put the power supply in the other computer again and see if it happens this time. As it is a intermittent thing, so maybe it just didn't play up for me last time. Another thing I neglected to check was the actual voltage levels, I will do that too.

The voltages seem OK. PS_ON voltage low= 70mV and high= 4.98V.

Do you have the latest BIOS (3302)?

From what you described, the MoBo is having problems switching one of the components (most likely CPU, but could also be RAM) from S4 to S0, so it probably goes to S1 then S0, since this sequence works for any and all CPU/RAM in the last 15 years...

Yes, I am using the latest bios 3302. What I don't get is that the only way the motherboard can control the PSU is via the pc_on pin, and that functioning correctly.

I'd just tell Antec that your unit clicks with your board, and, if possible, want them to replace it with a different (better) unit like a Signature 850.

HCP-850 is sort of a hit or miss when it comes to quality control and performance.

Well I tried it again in the other computer and no clicking at all, after repeated attempts.

Strange that it only happens with this motherboard and only when hibernate is enabled.

Might get it swapped for a Corsair AX-850W. I just hope that it actually is the PSU, because the evidence is quite hazy and don't want to go through with this and find it is the M/B after all.

See what happens ay....

I'm pretty damn sure it's the PSU that clicks, and not the board as the power circuitry is on the PSU. I have a Silencer 910 here that does the exact same with a Striker 2 Extreme.

It isn't too big of an issue. You can leave it and have it click on cold boot, it doesn't affect the unit too much. Though, if you do want to replace it, then I wouldn't get the AX850 as it's not a good deal and is going to be replaced by the HX Platinums.

You can get a Golden Green 800 from PCCaseGear. Alternatively, an Aurum Pro 850 would be better off. You don't anywhere need that much power though. You can just get a solid 550W unit and have room to spare for a second 560.

I will downgrade the wattage a bit. The FSP Aurum does look really good, so it will go in the maybe pile.

As far as I can see the FSP PSU is slightly better in efficiency but has more ripple and doesn't have fully modular cables. The FSP is also louder but is also slightly cheaper. I haven't heard of FSP before either. The Corsair models are apparently based on a Seasonic design. I have had a HX850W before too and it was a good unit.

I will post if the new PSU resolved the issue.

The FSP AURUM PRO 850 is a really excellent power supply. I mean not being fully modular isn't a huge concern considering those cables have to be used anyway, unless your are using onboard VGA, which I am not.

The CAPZERO IC in the transient filter is very impressive as well as the SENZERO IC which reduces standby power consumption, which I am particularly interested in considering I don't need the full 850W.

The ripple is still low even if it is not as low as the AX850W and still manages to achieve higher efficiency and the regulation seems not to be affected in anyway.
The HX PLATINUM series don't seem to show up anywhere, I can see the HX GOLD series but not platinum. Do you know when they will be released?

there is no HX Platinum series.

There is just HX Silver (originals) & HX Gold (new/unreleased)
