Interesting case.
Maybe it's just the weird layout of the Asrock motherboard... but from the picture, it looks like the right corner would block motheboards with 8 slots. See the bottom right corner? If that's the case, I'm torn... just seem to be a lot of small things they've screwed. The silver plastic also looks to me like it's out of place. |

It's the weird layout - the Asrock is a full size ATX mainboard minus maybe a quarter inch at the bottom. That yellow slot is for the AM2 riser, which I never bought.

what happened to the motherboard's backplane bezel?

Never had more than one. I had two of these boards... one new, one used. The used one didn't come with an IO plate, and came to me with multiple failed capacitors.
Both boards are still in service after recapping. The used one is in Dad's rig, and currently has the IO plate to make up for no working SATA II port. It's the one I got new that you see in the article, along with 4GB DDR and an Athlon 64 3800+. |

FWIW, stick on fan headers (a small circuit board with molex 4 pin power in and a bank of motherboard type plugs) does make life easier.
