I don't use Seagate but I'm sure many people do. This is important :

They pulled the webpage I quoted in my chat log pretty quickly, luckily I still have the page open in my browser. Here is the text:

Welcome, Seagate hard drive owners. A number of Seagate hard drives from the following families may fail when the host system is powered on:

Barracuda 7200.11
DiamondMax 22
FreeAgent Desk
OneTouch 4
Barracuda ES.2 SATA
Pipeline HD
Pipeline HD Pro
SV35

Once a drive has failed, the data is inaccessible to users. Seagate has isolated this issue to a firmware bug affecting drives from these families manufactured through December 2008. Please use the following tools and instructions to determine if you have one of the affected products. If you do, we recommend that you update the firmware on the disk drive.

To help determine if you need to pursue this any further, you will need to check your model number, serial number and firmware revision. This can be done in Windows – it's easy! Download and run, or simply run as is, the Seagate Drive Detect software program. You will see a screen like this. Look for the drives that are Attached:

In this example above the model number name is ST31500341AS, the serial number 9VS00J20 and firmware revision SD1A.

Or you can use Microsoft Windows Device Manager to see the model numbers of you disk drive. At the Windows Start button select Run and type: devmgmt.msc

Then expand the Disk Drive branch to see the model numbers. Like this:

See if your model number is in this list.

Or you can call Seagate Support at 1-800-SEAGATE. Please be prepared to give the serial number of your drive as the solution depends on knowing the exact serial number.

Don't forget once the drive is locked you can't upgrade the firmware so your data is gone if you don't have backups.

Ah, lovely. My primary main rig hard drive is on the list.

Sucks. I'm sure you know what to do but for everyone with affected drives :
1. Don't turn the PC off
2. Backup if you didn't already
3. Check the firmware version with the Seagate Drive Detect software.
4. Contact Seagate and mention the article number.

Heh - mine's probably ok... it predates the problem by several months. Actually, it was one of the first of the 7200.11's to come out. It came out so early it had the 8MB buffer bug and I had to update the firmware just to get all 32MB to show up.

It's never powered down these days unless I need to for some reason. Most of the time it's on 24/7 along with my old Maxtor 250GB. But I emailed Seagate anyway.

but if my hard disk that is included in finnaly dead, because previously I do not know any information like this. are still have RMA from seagate??

It should be but you're probably at the mercy of local distributors.
