I’m looking at possibly buying the Silenx IXC-92HA2 CPU Heatsink. I have heard that other people have had problems with Silenx. One guy stated that in the past they have been guilty of “re-bagging cheap ass fans and then selling them at outrageous prices and also signing up on forums on the sly trying to push their products“. I would like to hear of anyone else’s experience with the company and there products.

Aside from the fact SilenX over and under rates all their fans (high airflow/low noise). I swear I've seen that exact same heatsink design from another company and I'm not just thinking about the exposed heatpipes...
There is also the fact those HS's are $5- USD each and you can get a proven good cooler for cheaper. |

Buy the original cooler: Xigmatek HDT-S1283. Or OCZ Vendetta 2 clone.

Eh, at least they were firsts to mass production HDT coolers. After that they helped Kingwin, OCZ, then appears Vantec, Nexus, SilenX, and so on.
At least that's I know. |

I did it (kind of) Micro Center has the Xigmatek HDT D1264 on sale for $27.99 after a $20.00 rebate it's only $7.99. http://microcenter.com/search/search...ortby=pricelow Since I was going to be in the area (45 minute drive) I decided to get it. I'm sure I could have gotten a better product however for the price this will allow me to get my rig running and to do more research on air and liquid cooling at my leasure. Thanks again. |

AHA!
Now I know where I seen that SilenX cooler before now! It's a handi-capped Sunbeam Core Contact Cooler. Same exact shape and what appears to be the same mounting too. The only difference is the Core Contact has an addition heatpipe and the heatpipes are cooper instead of nickel plated. |

SilenX is made by PCcooler a small Chinese cooler manufacturer, once famous because they copied Zalman's radial heatsink design and sold their products VERY cheap. PCcooler was involved in a patent lawsuit against Zalman, but Zalman didn't win completely. And now PCcooler has turned to the heatpipe coolers there's no patent issue with Zalman anymore.
Now two main providers of the "Heatpipe Direct Touch" design, or say "exposed pipes" design, are PCcooler and Xigmatek. Another newcomer is DeepCool which is both in retail and System OEM business, but they only introduced 1 product using HDT design. Others brands like OCZ, SilenX, Sunbeam and Vantec, are rebranding PCcooler and Xigmatek's products. There's been a timeless debate of who stole who's idea of HDT, but both company are mainly providing a large number of OEM products for other brands. PCcooler is small but since their acceptable quality, above average performance and cheap price, cooler rebranders and video card manufacturers like their products. Several months ago they introduced an HDT-equipped VGA cooler named HP3-851 "Aegean", and now it's used on many 9800GTX+ and HD4850 cards. Two facts: 1. The exposed heatpipe technology is nothing new. 2. Its performance is proved excellent, but still has some limitations since the copper heat spreader between pipes and heat source is removed. Speaking of the over and under rating of fans, it's up to rebrander's conscience. PCcooler doesn't provide DC fans. They buy fans from other Chinese companies and the quality can be average or slightly better.
