just got an e-mail notification about this yesterday ...never had this before, kind odd considering I frequent some much much more busier forums

IP address: 50.7.159.178

first thing I did was change my password to a strong pass phrase with letters, upper case, lower case, numbers and symbols

Corsair forum's too. This time from an IP that is a proxy router.

There's more hackers these days... fortunately, they're not any smarter (for the most part).

no, let them figure it out, it's not that hard...
(i won't be changing mine, let's see how good of a method they have )

i've seen robots registering themselves and posting jibberish, but this is something new, what would they post, i wonder?
more alibaba ads?

(sorry, just silly to me)

I'm more worried about them having access to my information than posting under my handle.

If they can log into your account they can get your e-mail address.

If you use that e-mail address for online shopping, say amazon, and you use the same password...and you have your credit card info stored..they can go on a shopping spree while charging your card and changing the shipping address.

I just got the wonderful message too

Code:
Someone has tried to log into your account on jonnyGURU Forums with an incorrect password at least 5 times. This person has been prevented from attempting to login to your account for the next 15 minutes.

The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 162.247.72.201

All the best,
jonnyGURU Forums
It turns out this is a TOR exit node in NYC. And interestingly I got the email after installing and running tor.

Perhaps it's the NSA's way to discourage TOR users? e.g. try to repeatedly login to a website with a username list. Make the login attempts from a spoofed originating IP address that happens to be a Tor node. Now who would have compiled a list of TOR exit nodes? Maybe the NSA or maybe the Chinese or maybe a private firm like the Hacking team (who was recently hacked btw)

or perhaps it's an experiment to discredit/DDOS johnnyGuru.

Got one just now. IP geolocates to either Arkansas or New York.
