Default Enermax Platimax 1000W review

Another Platypus... err... Platimax up for review. This one looks more like a Revolution, but actually performed better than the 1200W.

Having a look over at Newegg, we find the Platimax 1000W selling for $289.99 without any promotions. That makes it the most expensive Platinum 1000W power supply they currently have on hand; a good $30 more expensive than Seasonic and Antec's Platinum efforts.
Too bad, because it isn't clearly beating those. Even though soldering is indeed improved compared to some earlier Enermax releases.

Though I don't think 2x CPU cable and 2x GPU cable hardwired are much of a problem as person needing 1000W will most definitely be using those.

Interestingly, the efficiency of 50% 80PLUS test is lower than that in hot test 5 although they are pretty close.

Lower ambient temperature and less load on minor rails do not help with typical load efficiency at all?

For the modular cables, I'd take off a CPU cable and that's it. Not every board needs or has two as an option.

But if you're using a 1000w unit and only a single PCIe cable, somethin is wrong with your math.

Like wise, the unit is a solid step ahead of what the old Revo85+ 1020w did at this power level (or even the Lepa G900) but not up to par with the other 1000w Platinum offerings.

Most gold units are $200 or lower though. And Kingwin sells Platinum at $230 so this guy would need to drop by more than $30 to be a viable competitor.

Also, that looks to be the same PCB as the Revo87+ but there seems to be something covering up the OCP shunts? Did Enermax actually bridge them together, or are they just doing the same as Seasonic?

You are correct. They bridged them.

I'm gonna jump on the price bashing bandwagon.. it's too much, especially in Europe, you can get a HCP 1200 for 30€ less, and a GoldenKing 1000 for 60€ less...
I don't know how they sell these things.. I would have thought that by now the Platypus breeding industry would have asked for a bailout..

Well I'm pretty sure that means their Safeguard claim of OCP is false then.

They copied and pasted that bulletpoint from the last Platimax box.

And? You think I should ding them for that? I'm pretty sure they don't have any native English speakers working for them anymore. It's not like the XFX box which is full of intentionally incorrect B.S.
