Default FSP Saga II 500w

Hey all (:

I was browsing psu's and coming by FSP everest reviews. I saw all FSP psu's became epic fail while hot box and cold box testing. So I am concerning about my current psu.

My system is:

Core i3 540@3.07 GHZ
XFX Radeon HD 6850(with two 6 pin input, I had to use molex one of them)
4 GB Dual channel ram.

System is normally working without any problem until I overclock my gpu to 940/1150 mhz. I am calling my psu into question. The question is, FSP Saga 2 is a bad psu? I dont wanna harm my system because of bad psu.

And I am thinking to replace my fsp with Xfx 650w core edition, what do you think?

Cheers.

The Saga II units are based on the FSP APN design, which is incredibly mediocre. Though, it's not something to worry about.

The ripple on the unit is very high and the voltage regulation is fairly loose, but it doesn't violate ATX specifications in normal use (or hot box) and it won't blow up or fry your system.

The XFX Core 650w is a great unit, but overkill and then some for your unit.

What stores are you shopping from? A 500w unit would suit your needs well.

Firstly thanks for quick response.

I usually shop from local sites for instance

http://inventus.com.tr/mi_products/P....aspx?PID=4483 (turkey)

I am using my current system without any problem with fsp, however whenever I overclock gpu, the system totally crashes. XFX especially emphasize that they do not support molex cables and unfortunately I have only one 6 pin cable. Thats why I am concerning.

Also, I wanna some overclock headroom for both cpu and gpu, plus thinking to buy i5 and crossfire based mobo. So, XFX 650w would provide enough power for i5 and double 6850?

Btw, don't trust my english, if you have a problem at any point feel free to correct me or ask me.

Yes 650W would be fine for two 6850's, even 550W would be I think.

Also consider those 2, cheaper, units:

If you don't mind non-modular PSUs, SS-650HT seems to be the way to go. I'm not 100% sure, but from what I recall SS-650HT is basically a non-modular XFX XXX 650W, and it's also closely related to first Corsair TX650.

SS-650HT seems fine. Also I dont mind whether its modular or not. But, there is one thing still concerns me. My hd 6850 has two 6 pin inputs and if I make a crossfire siystem, the cards basically need four 6 pin cable, but Seasonic has only two. Don't you guys think it causes a problem using four(2-2) molexs for another card?

Certainly it ruins your cable management. Also, there is some risk that if you don't make proper contact, some pins may be burned (probably not at stock though).

For native 4x PCI-E PSU, XFX Core 650W is your best bet.

Core 650W isn't available in this store (inventus.com.tr), though.

Hmm... maybe Corsair HX650? It doesn't seem that expensive.

Looks like xfx is the best choice for my situation.

I just noticed that. Is there any big difference in terms of build quality and performance between core edition and XXX edition 650w?

Core is somewhat better, the difference is not colossal though.
