Advantages
  • Price
  • Very good voltage regulation (excellent at +12V)
  • Low ripple
  • Efficiency which, by far, exceeds 80% (at 20-100% loads)
  • 12V and 5V rails performed very well in advanced transient tests, despite the low wattage of the PSU (that does not help in the current tests)

Disadvantages
  • Very low efficiency at loads less than 41W
  • No MOV in transient filter
  • Performance of 3.3V rail in advanced transient tests
  • The native cables length (24 pin ATX & 4+4pin EPS/ATX 12V) is relative small. Another 10cm would be ideal.

Thanks for the review.

Soldering of this unit looks far better than the Great Wall made 1250W psu's. I hope huntkey could choose some better capacitor brands though.

Not bad.

I agree about the funky cap choices though.

for its price Ι don't think that they had the margin to use better caps

Although on the modular board there are several teapos (and one also on the main board).

Would a full set of Teapo's really be that expensive for them to use on these units?

I mean, here in the states buying caps from E-Tailers is pretty cheap. You can re-cap a whole PSU's for cheap (here in the US atleast.)
I would never guess it's terribly expensive to get teapo's.

Even UCC's are pretty cheap (usually the cheapest for Jap caps)

May be pretty cheap when looking at one unit, but if they save $5 on each psu by buying caps not only direct from manufacturer with a big bulk discount, but also due to them just being cheaper, thats $5000 saved for every 1000 units produced.

Do these savings translate to savings for the consumer? More than often not, no. Which is unfortunate. If I get a inferior product, I at least want to pay less for it.

of course, its a huntkey...
tbh the first thing i thought when i saw "jumper" was jumper wire instead of input/transient filtering...lol
