Ah, is that why the damn thing's so thirsty? It makes sense, but I still don't like it.

I have nothing more to contribute.

Here are some interesting findings with some different PSUs. My system is:

    X2 3800+ @ 2.8Ghz
    2GB DDR500
    7900GTO SLI
    Samsung Spinpoint 250GB
    Pioneer DVD drive

Under Full Load with Gamexstream 700W: 294W

Under Full Load with Antec SmartPower 450W: 286W

So the SP-450 has a higher effeciency than the GameXstream?
I'm thinking that it is because of the Gamexstream not even using 1/2 of its power while the SP-450's effeciency goes up at the higher outputs.

I have seen a number of PSU that have bell shaped effciency curves so it isn't that uncommon.

    Correct.

But don't call it a bell curve because people will flame you because it's not a perfect bell.

People flame for the stupidest reasons.

What do you want me to call it? ┬┐Curva del Mesa?

Yeah I guess people like those that go on and on how the manufacturer of a unit isn't important (but their favorite brand wouldn't be caught dead having a lesser quality company manufacturer their supplies) would be all over that wagon.

I'm glad to see the Kill-A-Watt finally being used to prove that most people don't actually need 600W+, but, predictably, the new battle will be convincing the idiots/"n00bs" that the numbers aren't the wattage their PSU is delivering, but the total wattage their PSU draws from the wall.

Of course, I don't have a Kill-A-Watt, but I think my Weibo will do the trick just fine.....

    Asus L1N64-SLI
    Two FX74 CPU's
    4GB DDR2-1000 (4 x 1GB sticks)
    Two eVGA 8800GTX
Two Seagate Barracude 7200.10 750GB drives
    BenQ DVD640
    Ultra M998 case w/ X3 1000W PSU

    From the wall: 636.9W
