They haven't released the details of what they were doing yet; but their XFX Black Edition 850w (M12D model) quite literally went up in smoke.

    I love the comments:

frgmstr - You should read those HardOCP PSU reviews so that won't happen to you Ryan!

pcper - You mean like the XFX Black Edition 850 watt that got your Gold Award??
Looks like a stock heatsink GTX680, only 200w at most there. Only one CPU power cable, but that doesn't really tell us much. Difficult to manage 600+w on the CPU alone though! Without a gulftown and LN2 anyway.

Something tells me (and it could be the ) that Kyle was just giving them shit since he and Ryan are friends.

On the flipside, I F'ing hate when that happens on review units.

That explains a bit I guess. Still funny though.

So far my review units have been boring. Massive ripple and interesting noises, but no actual failures.
I have a cougar bronze thing that showed up out of the blue, maybe it'll go bang.
The OCF editors sent an email to that company in germany with the really really cheap but cooling looking units. I expect that to go back if I actually get it...

It goes in waves (currently riding a wave of failures now). It's been a while since an actual fire, but lots of pops and smokes over the years.

I still love a few that melted caulk and spit them out the fan....did wonders for the wall behind the server rack.

That's the by product of the single +12V rail "feature".

Pre-production sample eh?.. so one of the new BE 750/850 units (new Seasonic X series based)?

I've gotten pretty lucky with my review samples - haven't had a smoker in a long time now. Can't even seem to get the gutless wonders to give me a light show.

The last one might have been the Antec TPQ 1200W. That one went out with some style.

Asked a guy who works for them that I know; it's just M12D.
It's a pre-production sample from their first entry to the PSU market.
