    Default PSU Compatibility

Is there such a thing as power supply compatibility, with, let's say, the motherboard?

I've seen on occasion where someone would have undiagnosed trouble and exchange a perfectly good PSU with another brand and the problem would vanish. The person would chalk the anomaly up to the PSU not being compatible, although the initial PSU was delivering stable, clean, power.

This doesn't make sense to me. Electric is electric.

Is there any truth to this scenario?

There's VERY RARE instances where the +5VSB may not provide enough amperage for stand by or the signal strength of a particular signal/sense lead isn't quite right.

    But these occurances are rare.
