Default SUPER SUPER SUPER noob question

Hi, forgive me if this is too basic but...
the power adaptor for my laptop stopped working and although I've replaced it I got wondering whether the fault in the old one was down to a connection in the little plug part that goes into the computer. I stripped the casing off and found one white wire that is soldered to the outside of the connector (a silver tube with an inner plastic sleeve). On the bottom of the connector there is a little metal tab sticking out from the center with nothing attached to it, and a red wire that isnt attached to anything, so I assume I just need to solder the red wire onto the tab and the cable should work again (good for a spare). I will attach a link to a photo that you can hopefully see. Before I do anything though, do you think what I have said above is correct? Thanks

Yes. The red wire should be soldered to the center contact (the "tab").

Can we have an update on the success of the fix?
