Default Be Quiet! Straight Power E8 400 W @ TechPowerUp

Be Quiet! is a German brand, part of Listan, that specializes in products that operate with minimal noise output. Till recently their products were mostly known inside Germany but they decided to expand to a wider market. Unfortunately at the time of the review they did not have a presence in the U.S. Their PSU products, from high-end to low-end, spans over the Dark Power Pro, Straight Power and Pure Power series. They have also several SFX, TFX and notebook PSUs.

In this review we test the Straight Power E8 400W. This unit features an ultra silent, low RPM fan that utilizes the SilentWing technology so the manufacturer claims that the max noise output is only 14.7 dBA at full load operation! The unit uses a non-modular cabling scheme and although its price is on the low side it features DC-DC converters for the minor rails generation, something that gives a boost to efficiency. The E8 may be only 80 Plus Bronze certified but its characteristics speak for up to 89% efficiency, a very high ratio.

Another option would have been to use two 6 pin PCIe connectors instead of the single 6+2 connector, there is no graphics card that has just a single 8-pin PCIe.
Classic FSP fuckup, but their not the only ones..
    Very good PSU, price/performance wise.
    Very nice review Crmaris!

thanks! Indeed for its price is a very good PSU. Although it's crippled by the single PCIe connector.

Isn't it the choice from Be Quiet! to chose a single PCIe connector? They easily could make two 6 pins PCIe on one cable.

Yes, a very meticulous and detailed review, excellent work. Are you sure you're not of German descent?

A bit tighter 3.3V regulation and an additional 6-pin PCI-E connector would make this a best-buy in it's class. Despite CapXons

And I love the QC blips - the missing heatshrink and the leaning tower of BR... I also wonder, whatever happened to the fuse? "REPLACE ONY SAME TYPE RATING" - lol FSP.
Careful what you wish for... You just might get it.

Might be, the Straight Power E8 has 6 models ranging from 400W to 700W, so this might be a way to differentiate between them and determine the buyer to go for a higher rated model if multiple PCIe connectors are required.. but it's bad policy, this PSU can easily power something like a 6870, either way Be Quiet or FSP choice, is a bad one..

Thought about FSP first just because they seem to fuck up the connectors on their product lines as well:
AU 400 -> one 6+2pin (same issue as above)
AU 600 -> three 6+2pin (was it that hard to make it two 6pin and two 6+2pin!?)
AU 550 -> four 6+2pin (makes no sense, it has more PCIe connectors than the higher rated fixed cable unit, and it's overkill, this PSU will never be able to power two cards that need double 8pin PCIe connectors)
Sorry for the derail, don't want to turn this in to a FSP thread

Meh, for the price (or even a bit cheaper) I can get XFX Core 550W.

I think it's to expensive, even a FSP Aurum 400W is a little bit cheaper.

I will say that efficiency was better than expected.

Though for the whole package, the Aurum's are a bit cheaper it seems. Also, the lack of a second PCIe 6pin connector could be do to PCB limitations. Still though, they could have fixed this by including an 8 to two 6 adapter.
