Default AMD Radeon HD6990 Review @ TechPowerUp

In comes the Radeon HD 6990, the very peak of AMD's Northern Islands family of GPUs. It carries the codename "Antilles", and is a dual-GPU graphics card making use of two of AMD's "Cayman" graphics processors. Cayman in its single-GPU board designs make up for the rest of the HD 6900 series, namely HD 6950 and HD 6970. On AMD Radeon HD 6990, the Cayman chips have all 1536 of their stream processors based on the VLIW4 design enabled. Each GPU is backed by 2 GB of fast GDDR5 memory over a 256-bit wide memory interface each, totaling to 4 GB of total memory, the highest for a reference consumer graphics card launch.

The "Antilles Unlocking Switch" - essentially a BIOS switcher button - is a world of fail on it's own. "So hey, we made this nice convenient switch that activates a factory pre-overclocked secondary BIOS, which in turn raises the frequencies ever so slightly. Oh, and also, clicking it voids your warranty. TA-DAH!"

    Imbeciles.

Other than the rant, I expected this to be a monster - it is a 6950 4 GB CF after all... That being said, I'd never buy it myself. 2 x GTX570 is a bit hotter and power hungry, but also cheaper and faster.

    Accroding to @[H], it's not:

However, my ideal combo would be 2x 6950 2 GB + BIOS flash. Either this, or 2x 560 Ti overclocked.

According to Expreview, HD6990 will meet its match on 22nd March. That's exactly the day that Crysis2 is being released.

Here are some details on GTX590:

GeForce GTX 590 packs dual-GF110 core, features 1024 CUDA Core, 3GB GDDR5 memory, dual-8pin external power connectors and has TDP of 375W.
