Alright, soap opera .. would you pefer your favorite price performance compromises? OR is SB magic in a bottle?
I mean a friend told me they were told their computer had 500 viruses, and were offered a $300 cure...
I can be as dumb and inept as anyone, and overspend on enthusiasm, but.. I am cheap
Why are people so a) sure it's too difficult
    b) too much trouble to read a manual
    c)sure you can fix it

    SB?

anybody who pays a shop $300 to clear out a virus infestation deserves to lose their money. When a computer is that far gone, an OS reinstall is almost always the only sure cure.

I think I understand one aspect of the OP (I had to turn my head, close one eye, and hum a Gorillaz tune while reciting an e.e. cummings poem, but I figured it out).

Yes, most, uninformed, consumers want a computer that's as easy to use as a toaster. Which means they want it cheap and they want it to work when they press the power button.

Exactly, fwiw people generally come up with better interpretations of what I SAY/PRINT then if I give detailed explainations.
Seriously, otherwise bright people go into brain fade faced with computer problems and decisions.
