    Default PSU Recommendations

I believe my PSU is failing, it is locking up during games and sometimes just for no reason at all, tried another video card and same result. Anyway here is my basic system specs

    Asrock X58 Extreme
    Intel I7 920
Visiontek HD4850 soon to be a GTX 460
    6GB DDR3 ram, 3 sticks
1 sata hd may go to 2 soon
cd/dvd burner but will eventually go blu ray

the cpu is using the standard cooler and is not oc'd at the moment.

    I was considering this psu

    CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX

but would welcome all help and any suggestions, thanks.

Also anyway I could test the psu to be sure it is the problem, I think it is an Antec earthwatts 450 or 550,
and the problems just started happening within the last week or two.

Have you tested your memory yet because your problem almost sounds like a failing stick. If not, download Memtest and run it at least 4-5 times before settling soley on your power supply as culprit.

The Corsair ps you mentioned is a solid unit, but don't discount other hardware as the problem until you eliminate other sources.
A lot of people ask me if I were shipwrecked and could only have one book, what would it be? I always say 'How to Build a Boat.'

The Antec TruePower New 650W is a better investment. Higher efficiency, at least some modular cables, better ripple suppression and spike suppression. It is also rated for an extra 2A or 24W on the +12v rails.

Yes but costs a bit more.

The Seasonic S12II 620 or the modular M12II 620 are both good buys.
