    Default Overclocking the AMD 6870

Like to know if anyone has been overclocking the AMD 6870? I've got a Biostar running at core clock 900Mhz and memory clock at 1050Mhz stock.

I've got two 200mm CoolerMaster fans one top one front and one 140mm Promiltach vortex side fan in my case.

Here are the stats on the AMD 6870 by manufacturer with core and clock speeds in case anyone was interested as a side note. The XFX comes with the highest core clock and memory clock settings.

Manufacturer / Core Clock / Memory Clock

    Biostar --------------------900Mhz / 1050Mhz 4.2Gbps
    Sapphire -----------------900Mhz / 1050Mhz 4.2Gbps
    HIS OC --------------------920Mhz / 1120Mhz 4.48Gbps
    XFX Black Edition ---940Mhz / 1150Mhz 4.6Gbps
    MSI -------------------------900Mhz / 1050Mhz / 4.2Gbps
    Gigabyte -----------------900Mhz / 1050Mhz 4.2Gbps
    Diamond -----------------900Mhz / 1050Mhz 4.2Gbps
    ASUS ------------------------913Mhz / 1050Mhz 4.2Gbps

I ran my Biostar at XFX Black Edition spec levels 940Mhz core clock and 1150Mhz memory clock to hit 4.6Gbps playing Crysis. Auto fan settings.

At 90% activity reached 75C temp and fan speed at 31%....still quite fan btw.
At 97% activity reached 77C temp and fan speed at 32%.
At 99% activity reached 77C temp and fan speed at 33% for over 12 mins when it seemed to stabilize and go up and down from 76C to 77C consistently.

Back down to idle with no acitivity and it went down to 59C with 27% of fan speed where is stayed consistent.

Like to know what is a safe overclock on the AMD 6870 card? What temp on video cards are the top one can go safely without frying it or windows becoming unstable? How long can one sustain higher temps before damage starts to occur?

Again thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to respond who's done some OC'ing on the 6870. I've never overclocked a video card before.

I would like to assure him that there is nothing to be worried with regard to overclocking. I have also got the XFX Black Edition. I have been using it over the last five months and I have never had any headaches with it. In my case on 99% activity, the temperature will be 77°C and fan speed will be 33%. I think it is perfectly okay.
