    Default Replacement PSU needed, recommendations

    Howdy!

    I am getting a new setup and in order to get it running, I am going to use the PCP&C 610 watt silencer that is currently running my AN7.

    I will need to get a new PSU to put in it's place. My understanding is that on the older socket A systems, that the amps 3.3v and 5v rails are more important than the amps on the 12v rail. I used the PSU calculator at http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp and with my configuration (athlon mobile barton 2400 oc'ed to at least 2.4/2 sticks CH5 memory/2 5400 ide/1 7200 sata/floppy/combo drive/watercooled/7fans/7800gs agp vid card/tv tuner card) it says that I need at least a 470 watt power supply.

    My impression was that I need:
    3.3v = 25a minimun, really should be 30-35
    5v = 30a minimum, but you want closer to 40a
    12v = 16a minimum
    taken from http://www.overclockers.com/forums/s...d.php?t=400288

    unfortunately there don't seem to be many available PSUs that fit.

    I was looking at this unit

    Comments, recommendations?

    Thanks in advance.

    Jim

    Corsair 450 is what I'd buy. There's no way that machine needs a 500W PSU.

    You mean Abit AN7?
    If that's the mobo, don't worry about it, the CPU is powered from the +12V rail.
    And you don't need that much power, a Seasonic SS-350ET or Corsair CX400 are enough.

    Yes. It is the Abit AN7. I did not realize that the CPU was running off the 12v rail. Some of the different software that I have been using doesn't show the 12v rail. (That is probably due to the Uguru chip.) It does make sense as the board does have the additional connector to the mobo and does not like to run without it.

    Thanks for the recommendation and for the information about the board.
