Default Who has an antec earthwatts? My earthwatts fan doesn't spin

    I have a 380w earthwatts, bought in 2007

it was installed in my parents' pc, and today, i noticed the fan wasn't spinning.

the power supply works just fine. it powered a p4 northwood for these 2 years.

i've never seen a power supply with a fan that doesn't spin.
So i took the psu out, tried to short the green wire with a black wire, and the fan spun half a turn and stopped. When i tried to switch it on again, it didn't spin this time.
when i turned the pc off, i also noticed the fan spin 1 turn. but that was only once today.

does the half turn mean the psu fan control is still working?

upon further google search, I found that Seasonic has a "hybrid silent fan" that doesn't spin during low loads. But I don't know how many years ago they implemented it.

I called antec tech support, and the dude said all the power supply fans are supposed to spin. But I have doubts whether he knows what he's talking about.

Can anyone with an older Seasonic-made earthwatts verify if the fan spins during idle and on bootup?

i really don't want to RMA this and risk having a crappier psu replacement. This one works. only the fan is ?broken?
and i have extra 80mm fans laying around that i can hook up to the molex and have it spin all the time.

The EA380 doesn't have a fanless mode - yours has issues. I would RMA that unit. If it's been running with no fan for a while, there could be damage to internal components that will not be fixed by just replacing the fan.

also fanless means..toasty pcb..ouch ..especially with p4's those drain alot of current.

They used to make the EA380, EA430, and EA500. Now they just make the EA380 and Delta makes the rest.

    Which EA failed Wolf's test?
Yes. One of the last commincations I had with Dave Hammock before he disappeared from the web was how a major brand single +12V rail PSU wasn't shutting down when shorted. We were literally arc welding with the PSU. Hopefully Dave's absense isn't due to the fact that he got over zealous with the welding.

I thought an Antec EA failed not too long ago? Maybe it wasn't an EA, I will try & look it up.

    Many Thanks,

Didn't the EA750 have like 121mv of ripple on one rail and 135mv on another?
