Yes. One of the last commincations I had with Dave Hammock before he disappeared from the web was how a major brand single +12V rail PSU wasn't shutting down when shorted. We were literally arc welding with the PSU. Hopefully Dave's absense isn't due to the fact that he got over zealous with the welding.

In other test the 7200.12's performed much better in a RAID 0 or 5 configurations, leading the testers to believe their firmware is optimized for high throughput RAID arrays at the cost of less performance for single drive set-ups.

I hope that is the case here & that Anandtech will retest in RAID 0 & 5 arrays, because if this drive is optimized for single drive applications, at this point it is a failure.

I fully admit to having become a "fanboy" over the years as several manufactures products have consistently give me superior performance & earned my trust & respect, however I am an honest fanboy & will call a fail a fail & right now the SATA-3, XT is a fail.
As far as I'm concerned every 2TB drive on the market right now is a fail. Performance simply sucks across the board. Same story as with 1.5TB drives a while back; I won't touch them until the technology improves.

"Western Digital did everything right. The company is now the first to offer 2TB hard drives at 7,200 RPM, and it seizes the performance crown in the desktop hard drive segment. We found the Caviar Black 2TB to have the highest throughput, quickest access time, and best I/O performance ever seen on 3.5” mainstream drive. Plus we have the RE4, a more robust, 24x7 variant of the Black."

In the same case my old WD Caviar SE was silent so it does seem like the WD Black is louder than most new drives. If my case was on the floor I doubt I would hear it though.
