Too bad none of this is available through Buy.com Canada. With NCIX dead as a doornail, people will be looking somewhere else for their hardware fix.

What do you mean "NCIX dead as a doornail?"

NCIX is still going strong. I live near there, I was just there yesterday.

Actually, the whole online order system, the forums and the customer login went down yesterday because of those crazy windstorms. They were originally talking about only getting the datacentre back up running on Monday but looks like they got their butts together and brought it up late last night.

Those hosers at buy.com oversold... my hx520 is "on order". The invoice was in the status "sent to warehouse" for seven days.

Two months ago they had a CRAZY special for an Opteron 165 at $100 Canadian. My order is still "sent to warehouse". Be prepared to wait FOREVER.

    Question

I got a question regarding Corsair 520 HX. I attached the rails for 2 hard drives and 2 optical drives like like shown in the attached picture, minus 2 pci-e, and the PSU was getting hot (about 45*C +/- 5*).

When I changed the rails to the first 2 connectors (closer to the main rail) it ran at normal temp.

    Any ideas why?

How can you tell the temp it's running at?

It is hot to the touch ( I know not the most scientific explanation, that is why I said 45*C + or - 5*C, I probably should of said 40*C + or - 5*C because I have cold hands),
when the CPU 35*C and the rest of the system is about the same except for nforce4 chip which is about 50*C according to Speed Fan (in a 25*C + or - 3*C room temp.).

Also it created a warm spot on top of the case right were the PSU is, (it is in side Cooler Master Centurion 5 with stock fans) comparing it it to the rest of the case.

After I moved the 2 rails colder to the main rail (24pin + ATX12v + EPS12v) I couldn't tell the difference in temp. between the PSU and the rest of the system
(I did use the computer for 1 hour before checking its temp.).

(I don't think AMD x2 3800 65w, 7600GT, 4 PATA, 4 USB devices draw enough power to create that much heat)

I also suspect that 120mm fan that came with the case doesn't have enough power to exhaust enough hot air, which rises and accumulates in the PSU, also steel is as good of heat conductor as aluminum.

Or I might be a bit paranoid about heat.

    That is why I asked:
    Any ideas why?

I am sorry if this is a "false alarm"

Conveniently, my forever turned out to be the exact day I received an ST50ef Plus from DED. I threw the Silverstone in my idle system and it worked great. The first thing I did after it booted was go to Buy.com to cancel the Corsair. They shipped it that day. Dammit.
