    Default Hybrid Crossfire question.

So as most of you know, I am replacing the motherboard and processor in the system I built for my mother and sister (system #2 in my sig), since the Northwood is just not cutting it for them. It runs the basic stuff and my sister's speech therapy programs well enough, but for my sister's games, it is nothing like the X2 I had given them (they had a 939 X2 3600+, but it was killed in a lightning strike at our house back in October).

    I bought a Phenom II 720/Biostar t-force 790GX combo and a set of 4GB DDR2 1066, of which I kept the 720 and memory, and I'm giving them my Brisbane X2 3600+ and 2GB of DDR2 800 and the Biostar t-force board.

I want to know what cards are capable of running Hybrid Crossfire. They have a 6600GT, but I am wondering if they would get better performance with an ATI card in hybrid Crossfire with the onboard.

Only cards from 2400 and 3400 series were compatible with hybrid crossfirex. I don't remember reading anything about new additions (like 4xxx series). And it worked only on Vista.

According to this, it works with XP, but I can't find any data on whether any newer cards are compatible.

from what I've read, the only compatible cards are the HD2400 and 3400. Basically, whatever works with the 780G is what works with the 790.

Sapphire HD3850 for $60 and free shipping

that's cheaper than any 4650 or 4670 at newegg.

Damn, that's a great price. I'll see if I can get them to buy it. They just had some unexpected bills come up, so it may be moot, which if it is, the 6600GT will be fine for now.

Hybrid Graphics and Hybrid Crossfire are not the same thing. Actually Hybrid Crossfire is part of Hybrid Graphics technologies and afaik it's still limited to Vista. The rest of Hybrid Graphics Technologies are available in XP but not the crossfire.

And although not as good as 3850, these two are way better than 6600 GT :
