Thread necromancy... But still relevant. Almost all my primary apps and documents reside on a separate physical disk and are set as 'portable' by having their necessary dlls and registry (for programs that require registry entries to function) scripts in their home directory. Simply point windows to my locations, run some registry installers, and I'm good to go. My computer is a single user computer, don't need that multi-user nonsense. My recent Win7 reinstall (after board & cpu swap) took 4 hours total.

    Palemoon Portable
Firefox fork, that's portable. Noscript, adblock, RIP, Dev toolbar, etc. No need to reconfigure because I decide to boot into a different windows version.

    Office 2003
Got lucky and got it for free when a local business went all new with an office wide upgrade. Got COA and all. Got 4 old computers and 2 monitors out of it too!

    WebArt Designer
Old program for quick clipart creation, and title creation. I can create probably 3 quick clipart logos by the time gimp even loads.

    Winamp 5
Because it whips the llama's butt.

    Thunderbird 0.5
Yes, zero point 5. Been the most stable program I've ever used.

    Filezilla Portable
FTP I can take everywhere without losing my settings & servers.

    HeidiSQL
    Because MySQL front is dead.

    Ariesoft Winsyntax
For PHP, MySQL & javascript. No frills, no nonsense text editor.

Apache 2, MySQL (soon MariaDB) PHP & Perl
    For local programming reasons.

    Adobe Reader 6
Its old and stripped of plugins and loads a heck of a lot faster than all the newer crap. Loads datasheets fine

    CutePDF
Sometims you just want to save the current page or a receipt and not waste paper. Disk space is cheaper than unicorn blood... Err, ink. Sadly.

    Media Player Classic
K-lite basic codec pack. Plays what I need it to play.

    Acronis 8, 11 & 12
Disk imaging. Sometimes its faster to restore the whole OS partition than to sit and troubleshoot when the OS decides to take a get drunk, and leave the office early and fall off the roof because it thought the stairs were there. Also useful for full OS tweak rollbacks. Use the Acronis bootloader for most of the work.

Those are my "cant do without" and they always end up being installed immediately after drivers, followed by a disk image of a "completed" system.

Mine have changed a bit since I last posted over here (2 posts up). I've switched Synaptic out with Aptitude, and dropped K3b completely since I have no need to burn discs any more.

Might want to tack Fluxbox on there too, as it's my favorite window manager.
