    Default Vogue cover controversy

    Saw this on Today show.

    From MSNBC:

The cover has caused a lot of chatter, particularly online, over whether the shot (taken by famed photographer Annie Liebovitz) perpetuates racial stereotypes.

Some look at the cover and don't think much of it, that it's an interesting shot of two of the world's most recognizable people.

Others, however, see it as the embodiment of racial and sexual stereotypes, that it's a depiction of an aggressive, black man in a King Kong-like pose, embracing a white woman, a Fay Wray-like "damsel in distress."

Still others say that there were plenty of better photos to choose from to put on the cover.

    So what's your take?

And in thinking about this story, I couldn't help but wonder...what's the more racist response to the cover: to see racial stereotypes and object or to not notice race at all?
Now... I'm white, so maybe I just don't get it. But the LAST thing I thought of when I saw that cover was black and white or King Kong holding Faye Ray.

I can't believe there's so much controversy over this.

I saw LeBron as just being a raw, aggresive basketball player. A white guy in his place doing the same pose would yield no different opinion from me.

Ok... Let's say it's a King Kong poster parody. Who's to say that King Kong represents an African American? He's a freakin' gorilla! A lot of basketball players can be referred to as gorillas black or white.

    I just don't get it.

I don't get it either - I have no problems with that shot.

I don't know what to think until Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton tells me what to think.

I just saw two people on a magazine cover. If the article hadn't mentioned their names I would not have even known they were anything but models from the local supplier.

I just thought it was a great magical trick, with the levitating ball and all.

I'm not white either and I don't get it... I saw the cover at a newsstand and just passed by it... Lebron James is a huge mofukka that will take your ass down on the basketball court, so it is natural they would display his aggression on a cover. Some of these people take the whole black and white thing way too far and aren't doing any good. Come on...

Tom Brady would kick Lebron's ass, they probably had to get his permission before Giselle could even be in the same room with James.

    ok...maybe not.
