    Default problems with my mouse

    Hi.
I have a problem on my second pc wich runs on an asus p5b vanilla with a pentium e6400.
Sometimes my mouse doesnt respond but i noticed that the light under the mouse is on , so it is getting power. When this happens i unplug it from the usb port and then plug it back in and it starts working again. I also had the system freeze on me a couple of times on the windows logo wile its booting up and i have to use the rest botton to restart it.
The mouse im using is a logitech g5 mouse and it works fine cause i have tested it on my laptop and no problems there.
Any help will be appreciated thx .

PS i dont know if it can be caused by the power supply o rmaybe the motherboard need a bios upgrade? or even better i need a new motherboard=)

I believe a Bios upgrade should do the trick. Make sure you also enable USB mouse and USB keyboard support in the bios.

About the lock ups, the two most likely culprits would be either your PSU, or a heat issue.

P.S Your motherboard is fine, you definately don't need to replace it.

    Hi and thx for help.
Im going to upgrade the bios now=) I use corsair 620w ps on both my machines it works fine on the other one so im gona try and swap them maybe one is not working well .
The lock ups only happened twice and both times was on a restart after i installed 2 drivers, one was for my graphic card the new catalyst 6.10 for my x1900xt and the other was for the new soundblaster x-fi audio card.
maybe i shouldnt use the catalyst 6.10 ?

Does this happen when any other mouse, not the G5, is used on this machine?

I realize the G5 works on your laptop, but it would still be good to know.

It happened with the g7 has well and im going to try today with another mouse.
The problem is that this happens very randomly so ill have to use it for few hours and see what happens. I will let you know.
It also happens on my second pc with a p5b deluxe on it , but on my third pc it doesnt happen and i practically have all the same hardware just different motherboard and power supply , i use a p5b-e and an ocz gamerextreme 700w power supply and all the rest is the same has the other 2 machines. So it has to be either the motherboards (p5b-deluxe and p5b vanilla) or the power supplly (corsair 620 w).
But then again im no expert=) so i probably shouldnt blame the ps or motherboard , i dont know =)

So it may very well be a USB setting.

Try the BIOS set to legacy support on and off, etc. Try different things.

A few motherboards simply do not like certain USB devices.

For example: I know of a particular AOpen socket A board that wont boot when a Sandisk Cruzer is plugged in.

I have few setting in bios but not sure the meaning of most of them=)

legacy USB support = is set to auto
port 64/60 emulation = is set to disabled
USB 2.0 controller mode = is set to HiSpeed
BIOS EHCI Hand-Off = is set to enabled

    thx for all the help.

PS i just checked an old manual for my ex motherboard the P5LD2 deluxe and saw that the original bios configuration for the usb configuration where set like this

    legacy usb support = auto
    usb 2.0 controller = disabled
usb 2.0 controller mode = high speed
bios ehci hand - off = disabled
    usb function = disabled

in the bios for the p5b deluxe i have no usb function and no usb 2.0 controller options. Im gona try and disable bios ehci hand-off and to bad there is no option like the p5ld2 D to disable the usb 2.0 controller =/ i wonder how come they changed this .

    Disable the hand off.

If that doesn't work, disable the legacy support.

Seems like its working fine now =)
I have one more problem atm tough=) when i go into bios in the main menu screen where the date and time is displayed under sata 1 , sata 2 , etccc... it doesnt say my hard drive is detected =/ on my p5b deluxe it shows the hard drive under sata 1 , on the p5b deluxe it just says not detected but its working so i dont know why its doing this .

error ignore the above , i just checked inside the case and i noticed my brother had connected the hard drive using the ide cable instead of the sata one =/ not sure why he did this but o well , should i live it like this or just put the sata cable back to the HD?
