Default inverter problems and my PSU...

I've been having problems with the inverters burning out on my cold cathode lighting... I emailed the place I bought them ( http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ain_page=index) and their reply was that it was probably my PSU, and that they had almost no issues with bad inverters.

My system has twin PSU's. The main PSU is an Enermax Galaxy 850, and the second PSU is an Enermax Liberty 500. The 500 runs just my pumps, fans, and lighting. Could the PSU cause that kind of problem with these inverters?

    Thanks,
    Lee

Pumps, fans and lighting all uses just the +12V. PSU's don't generally like having one of it's several rails in use and not the others. Get a voltage of the +12V using a multi-meter and I think you might find it's out of spec.

    Thanks for the quick reply...

I have 2 cables attached to the PSU one cable runs the pumps, and fans. With all of them running the multimeter shows a steady 11.95.

The second cable right now has nothing connected (because of the inverter issues) and with the multimeter connected it shows a steady 12.00 exactly...

    What should it read?

any suggestions? on a cure or prevention?

    Hmm... that's pretty good.

Different connectors don't mean different rails. I was talking about different rails, like the +5V.

They may be on to something here... the only inverter that I've had die was recently, when hooked up to a PSU that I had to get replaced.

Jonny, since I want to do the same thing as him, should I buy some load resistors to load the 3.3V and perhaps the 5V to ameliorate any possible crossload issues? If so, what load resistor setup up is advised?

    So...

Since the voltage is good on the 12v rail(s) I'm using, then it's safe to say that the inverter burn out was not caused by the PSU, but either from a bad inverter or a "heat" issue?
I've attached a pic of one of the inverters. The arrow points to the component that is obviously burnt.

    Thanks

    Could be just heat.

Do you have the inverter mounted somewhere where it can't get any air? Or are the vents in the inverter housing blocked?

That inverter is a different design than the one I had (mine didn't have attached switch or knob) but it failed in about the exact same way.
