Default The PSU that was the X3 2000W...

So the Ultra X3 2000W wouldn't get UL approval as it's capable of pulling more than 2000W from the wall, so they had to re-engineer it as a 1600W and send it through UL and CE approval all over again. Ouch! Expensive and timely.

This is what it now looks like (see attachment.)

I have to admit that I like the artistic vent cuts in the housing cover. It looks way better than the straight line cuts in the 2000W sample shown off at CES.

I haven't opened it up yet. I'm curious to see if it's any smaller on the inside than the 2000W.....

Jon, are you saying it is actually a 2kW unit with a mere lable change to 1.6kW? What do you think they re-engineered? Do you think it was cosmetically altered on the inside, i.e just the OCP/OVP was modified?

I'd imagine it would be a bit expensive to re-do the whole design with fresh components.

I'm not sure they didn't just bring down the OCP's to meet UL requirements, but it certainly wouldn't be expensive to re-do the design. I mean, the schematic wouldn't have to change. You could get away with smaller, cheaper components than the 2000W and still put out the same amount of power.

Here's a view from the 80MM exhaust side. Looks like they're using that higher amperage power cord input like the Seventeam/Silverstone 1000W uses.

Also looks like they have replaced two of the 6-pin PCI-e connectors on the modular interface with two 8-pin. So now the cables is 8-to-8 and not 6-to-8.

Well.. it looks like this thing is TOTALLY different than the 2000W unit.

The 2000W unit I believe was the same as an X3 1000W with a separate 12V power supply on a separate PCB providing power to the PCI-e connectors.

This thing is clearly one unit. One PCB.

Note the three transformers. It also has three primary caps.

And check out the toroid coil on the primary side. I've NEVER seen anything like that before. It's a good 1.5" diamater and stands over 2" from the PCB. WTF?!?!

Also, it looks as if this has separate rails, although the label seems to reveal it has one. Looks like I need to see if I can overload a rail and make this thing shut down.
