    Default Mushkin XP-650AP Interior Shots

Here are some interior shots of a Mushkin XP-650AP I received a few weeks back. Though you would be interested:

    Typical Topower

As usual, a Jenpo cap on the primary

The secondary is a bit interesting with Asia X 85*C caps and "TMX" 105*C which are NOT Asia X. I could not seem to find any information information about them.

Something else interesting is how the rails behave under heavy load. According to the label on the PSU each +12V rail is rated at 20A. If that 20A is passed, instead of the OCP kicking in the Rail Fusion should combine the rails and a light on the rear of the PSU should illuminate.

After tracing the cables, (and according to the manual) both PCI-E connectors, the Molex connectors AND the SATA connectors are all on the +12V3 rail.

With 2 overclocked 8800GTS cards at full load, a DVD being burned, HDTach running a HD test and 4 120mm fans attached to Molex connectors the Rail Fusion light didn't turn on. I am POSITIVE I was putting more than 20A on that one rail. So, even though there seems to be place on the PCB where the +12V wires are soldered down this PSU behaves like a single rail PSU...with or without Rail Fusion.

    Default Mushkin XP-650AP PSU Review

Well, here is another of my reviews that I just posted.

This time it is a Mushkin XP-650AP. My buddy is still using his o-scope until I have the chance to get my laptop running for the Stingray.

Damn Rail Fusion wouldn't enable no matter HOW much I threw at it.

    ENJOY!!!

Dare I say the "rail fusion" is always active? Just an idea but I think it might be on the right track.

That is what I thought...even though there are seperate solder points for the +12V rails on the PCB.

For the life of me I can't figure out why there isn't anything on the +12V4 rail.

Looks like a soldering error. So, 12V4 is a dummy? Very strange. What do Mushkin say about this?

As a guess they don't know about it. I would doubt they do much work on the units themselves.

You can see in one of the pics above that there are +12V wires attached to the +12V4 slot on the PCB. These wires are then soldered onto the modular interface.

It is really odd because all of the documentation says there is a +12V rail, there are wires soldered onto it but the manual states that there aren't any components that use it.
