    In the old days truck engines didn't seem as noisy, because they ran slower and so were at a lower frequency where the ear is less sensitive.

    Another way is to spread the noise over the spectrum.

    Yep. I have a very similar graph in my collection. I actually considered posting it when I responded.

    How about BMW that have such a quiet cabin that they introduce fake engine noise through speakers.

    I actually like a little noise from my computer so I can tell when the hard drive is busy, etc.

    I agree, probably just like a good driver needs to hear the sound of the engine, for control, so does need a reasonable sound of the computer.

    Well for HDD you should have LED on the case.

    And some just run SSDs

    I need to leave two storage: SSD for high speed and HDD for sound
