Default Are Cougar/HEC PSU's any good.

I'm looking to upgrade my PSU soon and I have come across a 750W unit from Cougar, specially the Cougar GEX 750W 80+ Gold. I did a little bit of digging and found that Cougar use HEC to manufacture their PSU's. I also saw that the GEX is in Tier B on the PSU Tier List 4.0

Do any of you have any prior experience with, or knowledge on, the reliability of these units?

There are other units of similar price but they're lower wattage and £5-£10 more expensive. (Silverstone ET700 MG and Corsair TX650M)

Not all Cougars are HEC. Not all HEC's are Cougar.

This Cougar, the GEX, is made by XHY. Same company that makes the Cooler Master MWE Gold.

It's LLC with DC to DC, so I don't see a reason not to think it's a decent unit. Outside of lack of experience with that particular manufacturer.

Where do you need 750w for. You have a recent high-end videocard. What are the system specs?

Thank you, this helps. From what I've read, the MWE Gold is a very good unit.

Currently I have a Ryzen 5 2600 and an RX 470 but I plan to upgrade in the near future to a 3070 and 5600/X. I'd like to have some leway in watts because I've heard the 30 series have spikes in current which can trip the over current protection. Also if I can get a 750W PSU of similar quality/reliability to 650W ones that cost more from other companies, I'll go for the higher wattage one just for extra headroom.

No, it's not. It's mediocore. TX650M V2 is much better quality.

For 5600X + RTX 3070 even a high quality 550w is enough. Powerconsumption of the system is about 400w max.

Can you link a source for this claim? Like a review that breaks the unit down and does proper testing? Or a comparison between the 2 units?

    MWE Gold 650 & TX 650M v2.

While I wouldn't go as far as saying the MWE Gold is mediocre but it's definitely not in the same league as the TX650M v2 in terms of electrical performance.

The Cougar is probably more silent, has the better fan and longer warranty, but quality and performance is indeed better by the Corsair.
