    I know. You could do that, but you would need an MCU in the PSU. I wonder what's cheaper. The additional wire or paying someone to program the table into the MCU.

    Actually I have two accounts. The jonnyguru one I deleted after getting into it with a guy for saying that the contamination problem with GW units like SF Series was proof that GW wasn't a good OEM and that Corsair only awards to the lowest bidder. The cable mod was done under my jcgerow account.

    A very valid point, but the 'table' is very simple; the extra voltage goes in proportion to the measured current. In theory a small transistor can do it.

    In the end all this works much better in reviews then in real life. In reviews, you distribute the load rather equally over the connectors. In real life graphics card PCIe and CPU 8-Pin face the biggest power draw. These connectors don't have (working) sense wire. In theory PCIe 8 Pin should have it, but in real life it's these are just additional GND pins. The sense wires check the voltage drop on 24 Pin, while power draw and therefore voltage drop is much bigger on other connectors. Still, brands need to do this type of window dressing to win awards...

    @Jon: I guess you're really into the pain which comes from going into forums like reddit or Tom's USA. At least you experience the same thing again and again - uneducated people dominating tech topics and annyoing the few people who know more about the products, often with help of forum crew. Why not stay away?

    Default What happens when you make custom cables without the sense wires....

    Originally I had just the Corsair RM650 tested, but then this past week also did the SF750 and got very different results!

    Makes sense to me, the sense wires are sensing a very low voltage (zero) and are compensating

    Did you not make it past that paragraph?

    It was a rhetorical question. I answered myself in the article:

    "The smaller SF Series relies completely on the reading from the sense wires and sees no reading, so assumes there's a drop and automatically compensates, even though it doesn't have to. Since there's a fail safe that limits how high the voltage can be raised, it never becomes an unsafe voltage."
