I will still RMA it 2 more times to get my money back.

I used to be an AMD fan.

Until I for a bad card, twice.

No. Because the RX580 required less bandwidth.

You should not have any of your slots set to AUTO when trying to use a 4.0 card in a 3.0 board.

Except it's not a bad card. It's probably a bad motherboard.

Way I see it; there was a problem, the problem is solved. Reason to celebrate, not send the card back.

At one point I thought we were at a loss, but things turned out well.

The card is a 4.0 card running in a 3.0 board. Sometimes when the slots are set to auto, they'll default to 1.0 because the board is too old to know what 4.0 is even supposed to be.

You can see this in GPUz. If you put in the RX 580, it'll probably say "PCIe 3.0 running at 3.0", but the 5700 XT might say, "PCIe 4.0 running at 1.0".

    Was the turning point.

All your equipment is probably running fine; you should be mighty happy.

I've had at least two Intel boxes ( Core processors, one was an i3-32xx and the other was an i5-2500) that would only display off of the integrated graphics until it got through BIOS and booted Windows, at which time the Radeon something or other started working, and worked at full capacity. No amount of tinkering with display initiation options in BIOS would fix it. Luckily, the boxes were fine running without a display attached to the integrated graphics, so I never spent much time trying to get to the root cause (they were clean, bare metal installs of Windows 7 Pro, so no upgrade leftovers). Just a PITA when you did need to get into BIOS.

Which reminds me, the video card might have its own firmware update.

I searched and found no means to check if there are any firmware updates.

Also I sent a mail to Asrock, could be an issue on their side causing the motherboard not like PCIE 4.0 cards. I think sometime in the weekend I'll get a Ati 6950 to replace my card with to test. If it doesn't have any issues in the first slot then it's clearly a 4.0 compatibility issue.

Way I see it is that things are now working and that is reason for celebration, but what are you doing up at 4 AM?

Ate a bad burger so I'm stuck in the bathroom for at least an hour. Might aswell check the forums.

I still want to get to the root of the problem and make the card work on PCIE 3.0 x16 properly. I'll do more testing in the weekend and maybe Asrock will reply with a possible BIOS update to make the motherboard like PCIE 4.0 cards more.

Overall at this point the PC is working flawlessly.

Battlefield V on ULTRA. Jedi Fallen Order on EPIC. It's like this card just revived.

Thanks for the help and assist guys, I've been so blinded by a complicated problem when all I had to do is pay better attention to what the GPUZ app was telling me.
