What's wrong with my PC?
So I have been having this issue on and off for a couple of months now.
Before getting into the issue, here's my PC config:
- AMD FX 6100
- ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3
- Corsair DDR 3 - 4 GB x 2
- Cooler Master B500 ver2.0 PSU
- On Board Graphics
- Corsair MX 100 256 GB SSD
- HDD - 160 GB + 500 GB
- Windows 7 Pro x64
When I turn on the PC, the PC beeps and sometimes I see the POST screen and sometimes a black screen which stays there for a few minutes and then after it proceeds to the "Starting Windows" screen, it gets stuck there for 3-4 mins before getting to the login screen. Sometimes I even get a "Insert bootable disk" error on the screen.
This happens even if I try to login to the SAFE mode.
The first time it happened, I did a clean install of my PC and the issue was back right after the install.
The next time it happened, I removed the connecting cables (SATA and POWER) to the SSD, changed the SATA slots and it started working fine for the next few days.
I also did a scan of my SSD with CHKDSK and even with the Crucial SSD diagnostic tool but everything came out clean.
Whenever this issue happens, I am having to open the cabinet, unplug and re-plug the SATA and POWER connector to the SSD and it would start working properly again for the next few days.
Have changed the SATA cable and also have swapped the power connectors but this issue keeps on happening every now and then.
What could be the possible reason for this? Could it be the PSU?
Another thing worth mentioning is that one of my HDDs randomly keeps vanishing from the My Computer panel. Sometimes it shows up and suddenly it would just disappear.
Kindly advise
Thanks

In my opinion a few more things are in order before conjecturing the power supply
You might want to try running with the hard drives disconnected, especially the one that keeps dropping out;
also and more generically
Test the RAM with MemTest
Test the hard drives for bad sectors with HD tune
Check for the latest BIOS
Check the CMOS battery
Check for firmware updates, for the drives etc
Seems the Crucial MX100 SSD might have a firmware update
https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/support-ssd-mx100
might also consider updating to Windows 10

Moving this to General Hardware because this is probably NOT the PSU.

Looks like a motherboard problem.

The Mask is probably right, but I feel like a bit of fun and my bet is on the hard drive.
