    Question Radeon RX 5700 "PSU Recommendation 600 W"

    Looking to upgrade my graphics card to the winner of RX 5700 vs RX 5700 GT vs RTX 2600 Super in terms of bang-for-buck

    I was disappointed to see that both the 5700 XT and the base 5700 list a "PSU Recommendation" of 600W. They also both have significantly higher Typical Board Power (225W & 180W) than my current GTX 970 (145W) or previous R7 265 (150W).
    I'm packing a BitFenix - Formula Gold 550W on the recommendation of this here brilliant forum.

    AMD doesn't know your system. It's quite difficult to give PSU advise if you only know one component. Also there are a lot of differences between all the 600W power supplies that exist.

    I get that a 50W difference isn't in the realms of blowing-up/not working/causing damage but I wouldn't want to be approaching the max capacity of my PSU and therefore having my efficiency tank and PSU lifetime reduced.
    PC Part Picker estimates current wattage at 334W (~60% capacity) so I guess I can afford another 35W for the base model (~67% capacity) and the extra 80W for the XT model wouldn't be too bad pushing it up to 75.27% capacity.

    That's not how efficiency works at all with modern PSUs.

    They assuming worst case scenario build, with worst case scenario quality power supply.

    Your PSU is 87% at 100% load. I hardly call that "tanking".

    Sounds like I'm stuck in the past :P

    I'm sure other people will be scared/tripped up by this so hopefully this can serve as a reference.
