Book about Power Supplies and basics of electronics
Hello! I want to read something, what is directed to people, who are interested in power supplies, but in general don't know basics about electronics (the best if it could be explained possible the easiest way). is something what can meet my expectations? Am from Poland, but of course i can handle with english books. I mean from resistor to for example topologies or constructing dc/dc.
Practical Electronics for Inventors is well priced and has a small section on power supplies; the older 3rd edition is probably just fine and is then about half the price second hand. Lots of typos even in the latest edition, but still a good book.
Great book, although I would not call it basic; it is intended for design engineers and claims it will cut 2-3 months in development time.
Strangely it seems to feel that a linear regulator has a low cost (Page 5), while I would argue that a linear supply needs to include a heavy (and so expensive) low frequency transformer.
Okay first of all thanks for replies and now i'm going to talk you what mean basics for me. Am interested in power supplies since 3 or 4 years and i know many things about power supplies, what is better but i don't understand often how for example double forward topology is created and what are the differs between half bridge/double forward. Of course i know basics like what various resistors usually do, but sometimes when i read datasheet from integrated circuits or miscellaneous topologies i don't know how i can understand these things. I think that i can't understand many things is because my knowledge is lack of basics too, so that's why i need basics and some advanced stuff. And the best, if concepts are explained easily.
I would start with The Essential Guide to Power Supplies by Gary Bocock (I will try to update my comment with the reference, when I find it in my bookmarks). Also, a good way to learn something new about electronics is to check the CircuitsToday projects and their recommended resources:
Getting Started in Electronics by Forrest M. Mims;
Make Electronics – Learning by Discovery by Charles Platt;
All New Electronics – Self Teaching Guide by Harry Kybett & Earl Boysen;
Practical Electronics for Inventors by Paul Scherz
Hope it helps.
