    No no no... He's proposing putting the super caps on the DC side to hold additional +12V power. Not replace the bulk caps.

    The primary capacitor can be reduced, and the super-caps replace the old 12V secondary caps.

    Problem is:
    a) you still don't have any space at all.
    b) Super Caps have a very limited Lifetime.
    If you use them to replace the 12V Secondary Caps, how long would they live? Like less than 5 minutes??

    less than 5 minutes... wonder where that figure came from

    Sure it is a silly idea (the current is too high), but if I get one good idea in ten I feel I am doing well.
