    Default Double forward/DC-DC

At the risk of a silly question

I don't see the difference between Double forward and DC-DC

    perhaps someone can clarify

Those things have no relation to each other, one describes something on the primary side and one describes something on the secondary side.

Double forward is a type of primary side switching topology, before the main transformer.
In most power supplies you'll see double forward, active clamp reset forward, half bridge with LLC, or full bridge with LLC. Each one has its advantages. You can identify them by the number and arrangement of switchers and other components on the primary side.

"DC-DC" is how we refer to one of different types of voltage regulation on the secondary side, after the main transformer.
You usually see group regulation, where +12V and +5V are regulated by a single choke and +3.3V by a magnetic amplifier from 5V or 12V. Or "DC-DC", where +5V and +3.3V are regulated by two DC-DC converters from 12V, one converter for each minor voltage.

    they are completely different things.

One is a primary topology and the other is a secondary topology

And that is where DC/DC is confusing; what is output for one section (12V) is input for the next section (3.3V or 5V)

Simply put, there is virtually no difference.

Why? Because your guess was right?

    Yep!

Actually because earlier posts said I was wrong.

This site could really do with an article on all this stuff.
