    Default ten years old laptop, consider mine 1st laptop

    hey just curious if this still can be used or not, alr broken, it randomly shutdown, still can booting window but after 10munite or so it will shutdown, i decide to open the case, i think the cpu is dead, can i just buy new laptop cpu and put it in this baby? i3/i5 maybe? i wont spend $ for repair, it cost alot, shopkeeper charge me around $40, hope i can fix this laptop, this is my treasure

    I would guess overheating; clean it out and check the fan.

    If the CPU were "dead", it wouldn't last 10 minutes.

    I agree that it may be overheating.

    ok thx for sugestion i will clean it after work off, overheating do i need thermal paste? i never use thisbstuff, which should i buy thermaltake/deepcool/coolmaster/arctic cooling

    The overheating is probably due to dust and not the thermal paste.

    I just use the basic stuff, and very little is needed; but I would start with cleaning and not removing the heat sink.

    More thermal paste is NOT better and I find that even the manufacturers put on too much and needs cleaning off. The size of a grain of rice might be reasonable.

    My laptop used to be in this case. Firstly, It need cleaning up. And now, I always use laptop cooler master for it.
