Really it's just a cable-clean up tool. I doubt those caps really do much of anything but it can make routing the 24pin in larger cases or some mid-towers a lot nicer since you don't have the dramatic bend.

More connectors, more places to fail.

why no M/B use 90 degree 24 pin connector for better cable management?

There are motherboards that have this. EVGA Z77 FTW example. But there are a lot of cases were a 90 degrees 24 pins ATX cable just won't fit.

Not any more connectors than a cable extension. Likewise, the pins inside this connector are solid so it's actually better than many cheap extensions that exist.

EVGA has been doing it for awhile on different Classified / Dark / FTW boards. I think I have seen a few other OEMs do the same but it's sorta just been EVGA's thing.

A strong consideration for not doing it, is it can limit case compatibility as most ATX mid-towers have their cable grommets either right below or directly to the side of the motherboard.

Wrong way around. The Short end shoulld have been the ATX Connector to the Board, the long one the input side.

But to be honest, I'd like to see something like that with PCIe cables. If possible with at least 2x 3300µF caps per 8pin Connector...
